You would think that I should look like Patrick the Starfish right now. My eyes should be filling with tears, but I feel exactly the opposite. One of my manuscripts got rejected today and I feel great!!
Why do I feel so good you might ask. Well, this was no ordinary rejection. An editor from one of my favorite publishing companies complimented my writing and my story idea before they rejected it. She actually gave me a reason for turning down my story. Now that may not seem like a big deal, but believe me, it is.
Many times months go by and I never hear anything from the publisher where I sent my manuscript. I celebrated all day by sharing my excellent rejection with fellow writers. They understood. Many of them praised the rejection letter. They said, “You’re getting closer to publication.” I believe they’re right.
So, if you get a personal rejection, take time to celebrate. This doesn’t happen every day.
